British Wildlife Photography Awards

05 Nov 2018

The winners of the 2018 British Wildlife Photography Awards have been announced and I am pleased to have had an image Highly Commended in the Wild Woods category. It's the first time I have entered so it was a nice surprise to find out.

The winning images will be on show in The Mall Gallery in London and in the accompanying book.

Kingston Lacey

The Beech Avenue at Kingston Lacey in Dorset.

Earlier this year I was approached by a local residential school for autistic children to discuss having a tranquil nature scene printed as a wallpaper for one of their students. We made a shortlist of images which were suitable for the space for him to choose from and he picked this very autumn scene. We printed this in-house at my print studio and installed it on the wall. We had to mount polycarbonate sheeting over the front to avoid it being picked and damaged and the end result looked amazing.

Better still, his carers have noticed he has been much calmer and not tried to damage his wall at all, which previously required frequently repairs..

Evoking a sense of calm, or enabling someone to step away from their hectic lives for a moment, makes all the alarm calls worthwhile.
