Canvas Printing

Printing onto canvas is always popular and economical, providing a non-reflective finish that's perfect for bright rooms. I use a high-quality poly-cotton canvas from Fotospeed which is approved by The Fine Art Trade Guild. Once printed, I laminate it with a clear matte laminate using a hot vacuum press, sealing the canvas completely for maximum durability. I hand-stretch the canvas, carefully trimming any excess for a perfectly flat finish. The rear is completed with tape, felt bumpers, and brass hangers, ensuring a polished, professional presentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between canvas and paper prints? +

Canvas prints offer a contemporary look, are non-reflective, ready to hang, and are ideal for larger pieces. Paper prints provide a classic look and offer a wider range of textures and finishes.

Do you offer a choice of canvas textures/finishes? +

I only stock Fotospeed Canvas Baroque Matt 350 - a Poly-Cotton canvas which I have been using for over a decade. It works exceptionally well with colour as well as black and white images. The texture is subtle and it isn’t prone to sagging or losing tension when stretched. I laminate the canvasses providing further durability. See other FAQ’s for more information.

How long do your canvasses last and why do you laminate them? +

When printed on Fine Art Trade Guild-approved canvas using pigment inks, the canvases have a lifespan of over 85 years. To further protect this longevity, I laminate the canvases with a full matte UV shield, applied using a heated vacuum press. This lamination seals the surface, making it wipeable, scratch-resistant, and adding extra fade resistance beyond the standard 85 years provided by the pigment inks.

How sturdy are the stretcher bars? +

I stock only high-quality stretcher bars made from FSC-certified, sustainably sourced European pine. These bars are edge-laminated and knot-free, minimizing the risk of warping and ensuring lasting durability for your canvas.

The narrow bars have a 24x44mm profile (24mm on the edge) and are suitable for canvasses up to 34x34”. For larger prints or a more substantial appearance, the deep bars have a 44x44mm profile and are available in all sizes.

Can I print larger on canvas than on paper? +

The slightly textured nature of the canvas can be more forgiving than a paper print. Extra large prints can be tricky to mount and glaze in traditional frames, so canvas is a good option for large wall art.
