These ancient trees, standing on the eastern edge of Finland, north of the Arctic Circle, were heavily laden with snow, their forms transformed into surreal, otherworldly sculptures by the harsh winter conditions. For a brief moment, the thick cloud cover eased just enough to reveal the sun, softly glowing rather than dazzlingly bright, casting a gentle light over the frozen landscape.
I’ve always been drawn to the Arctic light, especially when the sun lingers low in the sky. It has a unique, almost ethereal quality that’s impossible to replicate, and it continues to entice me back year after year.
