The character and differences in each tree make it a fascinating place to walk. Beech woodlands are beautiful, but I really do love how trees look planted in straight lines.
The strength of these old beech trees lining the road towards Kingston Lacy is hard to overlook. Despite the avenue being around 170 years old, many of the original trees still remain standing to this day. Originally 356 were planted each side of the then private road, one for each day of the year, along with one extra for leap years, planted on one side.
It was during the reign of Queen Victoria and the time of the American Civil War, before cars had been invented, that they were planted. It's hard to comprehend the changes these trees have witnessed.
