Castle Stalker is an impressive four-story tower house situated on a tidal islet in Loch Laich, a picturesque inlet off Loch Linnhe. Accessible only at low tide and with some effort, its name comes from the Gaelic ‘Stalcaire,’ meaning ‘hunter’ or ‘falconer.’ Thought to have been built around 1320 by the MacDougall clan, the castle carries centuries of history. Following the Jacobite defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, it served as a government outpost where clansmen were compelled to surrender their weapons.
With its dramatic mountain backdrop and captivating island setting, Castle Stalker is a true icon of the Scottish Highlands. Its authentic medieval design and stunning location have made it a favorite location I cannot pass up the opportunity to visit when I am in the Highlands.
