Kingfisher Photography Workshop

A friend of mine has established a superb wildlife hide in Somerset, attracting regular visits from several kingfishers at this time of year. Watching these stunning birds perch and dive at close range is a truly unforgettable experience, and photographing them is incredibly rewarding.

The hide is equipped with gimbal heads for ease of use, so all you need to bring is your camera, lenses, spare batteries, and plenty of storage. I’ll guide you through the ideal camera settings to help you capture incredible shots of these magnificent birds in action.

You'll need a reasonably long lens for this workshop. The example images were taken using my Canon RF100-500mm lens, with focal lengths ranging from 150mm to 500mm. I’m happy to offer equipment advice and can provide a discount code for lens rental if needed.

Please note, the kingfishers are wild, so while their visits are currently very frequent, sightings can’t be guaranteed. All images from this workshop were taken in one morning with around 20 visits. If their behavior changes before the scheduled date, the workshop will be cancelled, and you’ll receive a full refund.

We will meet around 7:45 to be in the hide for 8:00. (The hide is less than 5 miles from Yeovil).
