Frozen Landscapes

A sweeping display of the aurora borealis forms an arc of emerald light across the Arctic sky above the snowy Norwegian coastline. Reflected in the wet sand as gentle waves roll onto the beach, the northern lights created a wonderful sense of connection between sea and sky beneath a clear, star-filled night. This was an exceptionally dynamic aurora which danced and shifted across the sky for many hours. Just as it seemed to be fading, the display surged back to life again, sending ribbons of emerald light sweeping overhead. It was one of those truly memorable nights when the northern lights put on a spectacular show from start to finish.

The extreme and fast changing weather is what keeps me returning back to the Lofoten Islands and this images sums up the drama of Lofoten in winter.

Devils Jaw

I have photographed this jetty many times and remember seeing it on my first trip to Tromso. The conditions on this visit demanded a long exposure.

I drove past this fence every day on my way to my hotel and between snow storms stopped to make an image of it.
